How Much Does It REALLY Cost to Live on a Boat?
So the next thing you know I’m on craigslist looking up yachts. We go to go look at the first boat we saw and it was really cool. The guy selling the boat used to live on boat as well and gave us a lot of insight and priceless information. He was able to get us a boat slip smack-dab in mission bay of San Diego. We bought the boat for $13,500 and our slip fee was $450.00 a month. I took a loan on the boat so I was paying $300 a month. So, for $750.00 a month we were able to live in San Diego. I was a security Guard and Bar back at Pacific Beach Ale House, and Taylor was a bartender at Extraordinary Desserts.
We were also able to get second jobs at The San Diego Yacht Club, Taylor was the pool attendant I was the Head Lifeguard.
We were able to save a lot of money working at the yacht club because we were allotted an employee meal….yes free food at work. Because our cost of living was so low we only worked 4 days a week, double shifts Thursday-Sunday. After the yacht Club Taylor got a new job working at a High end Bakery that was constantly on Food Network Channel. I picked up a position at the YMCA as a Water Polo/Swim Coach and a Security guard job downtown San Diego.
